CITY OF SPRINGFIELD
Trinity Lutheran Church is committed to reaching out to and serving the city of Springfield and its surrounding communities. Our congregation participates in and supports a number of activities to assist our community at large, including:
Trinity Lutheran School and Early Childhood Center
Since 1860, Trinity Lutheran Church has supported and sustained a Lutheran grade school with the purpose of sharing Jesus with the children of Springfield. The ministry of the school was expanded in 2006 with the addition of the preschool. Trinity Lutheran School and Preschool continue to offer a Christ-centered and academically strong education for our students.
Clothing Giveaway
Every August, Trinity hosts a free clothing giveaway for the Springfield community. The Parish Hall at our school campus is filled with gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories. And yes, it’s all free!
Blessing Bags
Twice a year, we assemble Blessing Bags that include snacks, small toiletry items and important seasonal items such as gloves, hats, sunscreen or rain ponchos. The bags are provided to church members to give to people in need in the Springfield community.
Bethesda Lutheran Communities
The Trinity Ladies Aid group delivers Christmas gifts and birthday cakes to residents of the Bethesda Lutheran Communities of Springfield.
Food Pantry Ministry
Every month, the Food Pantry Ministry dedicates a weekend to collecting items for the local food pantry. If you’re interested in placing your name on the food pantry reminder email list, please email foodpantry@trinity-lutheran.com.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is a free event at our school campus for children 3 years old through 6th grade. Trinity’s VBS takes place in the evening and includes songs, crafts, snacks, Bible stories and games all centered around teaching your child about God’s great love for them.
Contact Ministries
Trinity Lutheran Church provides financial support to Contact Ministries, a local organization that serves the greater Springfield community by providing food, shelter, clothing, financial assistance, referrals, and life skills education & training through Christ’s love and compassion.
Helping Hands Homeless Shelter
Part of the mission of Trinity’s Community Outreach Team is to provide occasional meals for the Helping Hands Homeless Shelter in Springfield. The team relies on volunteers to help prepare and deliver these meals.
Trunk or Treat
This free, indoor trick or treating event allows community members and their kids to collect candy and other treats in a well-lit, warm and friendly environment. Stop by our Parish Hall at the school campus for safe and fun trick or treating on October 31st.
Other Outreach Efforts of our Members
In addition to the outreach programs sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church, members of our congregation seek to serve Christ in Springfield and the surrounding community by volunteering with various organizations such as: Basket of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Capital Area Concert Band, Ronald McDonald House, Friend-in-Deed, Memorial Transplant 5K, and many others.
